Okay. Here's the profile. For future reference, if you don't = understand the Planar Cant, http://www.mimir.net/cant/cant2.html is the = address for the Cant translation. I'll be using it very frequently, so = be warned. If it will help, I'll post the Cant dictionary address at = the beginning of each of my chapters.

Tertek Race: Tiefling (Part human, Part Lower Planar)

Class: 10th/10th level Rogue/Wizard

Appearance: Tertek stands about 5'10" and weighs roughly 145 pounds. = His entire body is covered in deep, midnight blue scales. Two = ivory-colored, ramlike horns emerge from his temples and curl backward, = beside his head, ideal for headbutting objects or annoying people. His = eyes glow like molten lava and have slitted, catlike pupils. His teeth = end in razor-sharp points. He has a prehensile, whiplike tail that can = be used for grabbing things, such as the legs of his opponents, or for = throwing objects, such as daggers.

Abilities: Tertek has the combined abilities of a thief and a = magic-user. His skills, in D&D 3rd Edition terms, include Appraise, = Climb, Concentration, Disable Device, Escape Artist, Gather Information, = Hide, Innuendo, Listen, Move Silently, Open Lock, Pick Pocket, Search, = Spellcraft, Spot and Use Rope.

He also has the ability to cast spells from 0-level through 5th level. = Rather than using conventional Spellbook methods, Tertek's teacher = showed the tiefling a method not used by the majority of mages in the = Planes. This method is called the "gembook." Simply put, rather than = using paper and ink to keep spells, the wizard records his spells in a = gemstone. The more valuable the gem, the more spells it can carry. I'm = not going to list all the spells Tertek knows but rest assured that he = doesn't know every single spell between 0-level and 5th level, though he = does know quite a few and has created a couple spells of his own (though = not too many, since the process is extremely expensive and = time-consuming).

Inventory: Tertek wears a sleeveless leather tunic and loose-fitting = pants. He rarely wears boots, preferring sandals, since few other = pieces of footwear exist that can accommodate his clawed feet. Around = his upper right arm is a red armband displaying the symbol of the = Society of Sensation, the faction he belongs to.

In terms of weapons, Tertek always wears at least six throwing daggers, = positioned strategically over his body. Two rest in sheathes attached = to his forearms. Two more hang from his belt. The remaining two sit on = his back, allowing for easy access by his tail. Though throwing daggers = with his tail presents a far less accurate means of attacking, he has = learned to make use of what he sometimes calls his "third hand." =20

He also has a pair of short swords, both magically enchanted. The = swords are twin blades and look identical to each other. The sword he = wields in his right hand discharges a bolt of electricity whenever it = strikes something. When wielded against a metal weapon, the sword will = discharge electricity down the weapon and into the hands of Tertek's = opponent. The sword he wields in his right hand can function as a sword = of dancing and can be released to fight on its own for a short duration. =

When the same person wields both twin blades, they increase the speed of = the wielder's attacks. The enchantment from the blade also infuses the = wielder, making him an expert at fighting with both weapons at once.

Both swords are also sentient and can communicate telepathically with = Tertek and with each other. The electrical sword possesses a very = sarcastic and biting personality, while the dancing sword is = considerably more carefree and lighthearted.

Tertek also wears a Ring of Sustenance, which enables him to go without = food and water for as long as he wears the ring. The ring also reduces = his need for sleep to 2 hours, instead of 8. This ring is considered = very valuable and comes in handy not only for adventurers but especially = for planewalkers.

Personality: Tertek grew up on the streets of the Hive Ward. Because = of his raising, he carries many of the mannerisms of a street thief. He = speaks heavily in Planar Cant, a slang used in Sigil. He is very = lighthearted and is a prankster much of the time, though he knows when = he should back down. His training as a wizard has softened him = somewhat, though he refuses to give up his ways as a thief. He = considers himself a thief first and a wizard second, though he tends to = employ his magic before using any other form of defending himself. = Because he is a member of the Society of Sensation, he sticks with his = faction's beliefs and rarely turns down the chance to experience a new = sensation.

Quote: "Quit rattlin' yer bone-box, ye bleedin' sod, before I pen ye in = th' dead-book!"

History: Tertek is the son of unknown and uncaring parents. Like = virtually all tieflings, he is a thing to be scorned, simply because he = has the blood of something Lower Planar running through his veins. = Unlike much of his kind, he didn't spend his life lamenting about how = badly his lot was. As long as he can remember, he has been determined = to rise above and beyond the expectations of a tiefling. =20

Unfortunately, Tertek's goals were easier said than done. The Hive = Ward, where he grew up, could more or less be considered the Slums of = Sigil. The only thing really important in the Hive was the Mortuary and = that only appealed to Dustmen, one of the factions of Sigil. In the = Hive, you were a Dustman, a cony-catcher, or a cony. Tertek took up the = life of a cony-catcher, living by his wits on the streets and learning = how to survive. As he grew up, he learned how to drag some poor = clueless sod into an alley, knock him unconscious and peel him for every = last bit of jink he had. Such was the life of the thieves of the Hive.

Tertek grew up on this philosophy. He had to steal what he needed to = live. He'd never known any other way of living yet inside, he yearned = for something better, a new life to live. The tiefling's hopes began to = diminish as the years dragged on. There seemed little chance that he'd = ever escape the Hive Ward unless he hopped through some random portal = and hoped he got lucky and landed in a place full of riches and wealth. = However, his luck was about to take a very good turn.

A roaming Sensate wizard decided to travel through the Hive one day to = reach a portal that led to a plane he wanted to visit. He ran into = Tertek as the tiefling decided to try and peel the mage. Upon realizing = he was about to rob a wizard, Tertek prepared to bolt, when the wizard = addressed him in a kindly tone. The wizard revealed himself to be a = Sensate and told Tertek that he'd always wanted to teach a tiefling how = to use magic. Tertek seized the opportunity, finally seeing a means to = escape the dreary street life of the Hive Ward.

Tertek spent much of the time during the next several years of his life = cooped up in the Civic Festhall, learning the magic arts from his new = teacher. The art seemed to come naturally to him. His teacher = speculated his ability to learn magic quickly was due in part to his = fiendish heritage. The Sensate considered himself lucky to have found = such an apt student and soon sponsored Tertek as a new member of the = Society of Sensation.

Looked upon as a reformed thief (though Tertek still thinks of himself = as a thief. "Once a thief, always a thief," is one of his favorite = phrases), Tertek left the tutelage of his mentor and opened a bar in = Sigil called the Cutter's Kip. As a Sensate, he wanted to provide = something that would make his business constantly changing so he = declared the house specialty to be a new kind of drink every day. When = he wasn't running his bar, the tiefling was traveling the planes, using = his newly acquired magical power to escape the drudgery of day-to-day = life and bar-ownership. He traveled to as many places as he possibly = could, holding as best as he knew to the Sensate dictum of experiencing = new sensations. However, when running from a group of portal guards, he = accidentally stepped through a portal leading to Nu...
